The Era of Holographic Computing.
Microsoft HoloLens, unveiled Wednesday at an event at the company’s Redmond, Washington, headquarters, does all that and more.
As holograms, your digital content will be as real as physical objects in the room. For the first time, holograms will become practical tools of daily life.
Shape holograms to fine-tune a design. Interact with them to learn something new. When you share your ideas, show and tell from multiple perspectives. Microsoft HoloLens enables you to make decisions more confidently, work more effectively, and bring your ideas to life right before your eyes
Holograms are the next evolution in computing. With this vision in mind, hardware, software, and user design engineers came together to create a new canvas for creators and developers. Microsoft HoloLens, together with Windows 10, introduces a powerful new holographic platform. The era of holographic computing is here.
Powering the Microsoft HoloLens is the Windows 10 operating system. Attendees are already getting a chance to play with Microosft HoloLens at the event. Exactly what Microsoft is showing users isn’t clear, but Microsoft’s HoloLens video include Minecraft, the game the company purchased late last year.
All told, Microsoft seems poised for another user interface revolution. It was Microsoft who kicked off wireless motion control in games with the original Kinect sensor and added seamless voice commands on top of it. If Microsoft does this right, the company could finally get the credit from hardware lovers that it has lusted after for years.
On the surface, Microsoft HoloLens might look like a Google Glass competitor, but that’s not necessarily the case. The Microsoft HoloLens shown on stage does look a little like Google’s wearable. It wraps around users head. The front of Microsoft HoloLens has a resting frame for keeping the device upright. Like Google Glass, it overlays its interface on top of whatever users are seeing. As such, answering the phone or moving around the house doesn’t require users to take it off.
Although there’s no set price just yet, expect to find the Microsoft HoloLens up for sale to the public sometime this fall, around the same time as Microsoft releases Windows 10. The operating system was the other big announcement that came out of Microsoft headquarters on Wednesday.
